Published a few years back, this book was a best-seller and still serves as a reference in the field of intuitive thought. And it reads a lot like a good novel. But more importantly, the topic reflects questions that we have all asked ourselves at one time or another:
how do we manage instinctively to “know” or “feel” the answer to a complex problem or question, while even detailed analysis or deep thinking do not produce an obvious solution? How do we forge our intuition and our intimate understanding of situations? How likely are mistakes when we rely on our “sixth sense?”
Blink plunges precisely into the mechanisms of the subconscious, meets with many behavioral specialists and shows intuition at work in a wide variety of situations: during an electoral campaign, in the kitchen of a master chef, on the scene of a violent arrest in the Bronx, during an audition to join a famous orchestra, etc. Enthralling and highly instructive.
