Why do we procrastinate, even over tasks that are crucial or close to our heart? Is this habit really a flaw? John Perry is a philosopher, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Stanford University and UC Riverside, himself a great procrastinator. He signs here an iconoclastic essay on this phenomenon, that is often ill-understood according to him. Indeed, procrastination would not necessarily be the opposite of productivity. For the author, there is a “structured procrastination”: an approach that consists in assuming this urge rather than repressing it, and in driving it to nonetheless progress in our work.
