The author has been investing for more than 20 years in companies that bet on new technologies to invent new ways of working, creating, producing. His book is equally relevant for investors as well as entrepreneurs and established business leaders, all confronted with the uncertainty and the complexity associated to technological changes. His first advice? Whatever the sector of activity, we must develop our technological culture in order to understand the present and apprehend the future. The author insists on putting into historical perspective the major technological and societal changes. This approach enables us to feel much more comfortable with the uncertainty and the complexity in which emerging technologies throw us. The author raises the question of the timing of the technological trends: when a wave takes shape, how long before it becomes a breaker? He also proposes a very concrete approach to elaborate a framework that can allow us to find our bearings in the proliferation of innovations, and to position ourselves, both personally and as a company, in relation to the changes induced in the economy. He also proposes a list of the main trends we should monitor today as they could have a sustainable impact in multiple sectors of activities and numerous facets of our daily lives.
