Summary
This article warns that paradoxically, programs destined to value diversity in the company can in fact lead to create scissions. Indeed, they focus the attention on the fact that sub-groups exist within the workforce. Without meaning to, they prompt everyone to position themselves within these sub-groups and they activate clan identities. To avoid this, the authors propose another approach: ensure that staff members develop a common sense of belonging by placing the focus on the creation of a common culture. The underlying idea is that the more staff members feel that they belong to a single collective, the less they focus on their differences.
