A senior executive in the French postal services, the author tells how he set up a personalized management approach of the gifts and talents of each of his staff.
Inspired by a humanistic approach and by the Gallup Institute research, Jacques Lebeau explains how he succeeded in remotivating his staff by profiling their positions in a customized manner, according to his staff’s talents, which were often initially ignored. The results were rapid: in a year absenteeism was lower by 6% and staff turnover by 10%.
Some stories are touching. The author thus tells how he was able to get back into work some people who had long dropped out of the system. He dared proposing to them assignments apparently remote from their competencies but that, in reality, were close to their natural gifts. That’s how some demotivated payroll technicians were mobilized on other assignments in the fields of training, communication or even event organization!
The author is transparent as to what it takes: he spent a lot of time in individual meetings to help his staff reveal their talents, and then to define a job description with them that would be as close as possible to an ideal situation. Furthermore, since he operated in a statutory environment, it took him a lot of agility, diplomacy and pedagogy to get out of predefined career paths.
A deeply positive book that gives hope when faced with demotivation at work, which can be used as a hands-on textbook.
