This book is the work of reference on non-violent communication, which calls for a less conflictual approach to interpersonal communication. Written by the father of this process?with the excesses and the limits of those who think one method can fit all situations?, it prompts us to take a new outlook on our interactions with others, whatever the context.
The author explains that language and interactions reinforce our aptitude to give with benevolence and to inspire the others to do as much. He invites us to become aware of the often-destructive impact of expressions we use automatically. The “you that kills”, the insinuations, the hasty judgments can prove a form of violence and place the other on the defensive. Impossible then to truly communicate! Although they might sometimes seem artificial, the reformulation proposals are very useful to practice a greater empathy towards our counterparts. Distinguishing between objective facts and judgments, or knowing how to formulate a request rather than a simple criticism, are undoubtedly useful exercises in any situation.
A valuable book to enable better communication with others, whether at home or in the office!
