[The 16 Biggest Mistakes of Digital Transformation]
In a digital transformation, mistakes are costly, whether in precious time lost, wasted investment, frustrated customers or discouraged employees. Given all of that, we might as well learn from the mistakes of others to be better aware of the pitfalls we may encounter along the way. Based on this premise, Vincent Giolito, a professor of strategy at the EM Lyon business school, analyzes 16 mistakes in strategy, technological choices, marketing or team management. Among these missteps: Boeing’s use of software as “technological patches” to elude fundamental problems; Gillette’s inertia in the face of its all-digital challenger, Dollar Shave Club; or the failed graft of digital talent within La Poste’s digital department. In contrast to these counterexamples, the author identifies principles and practices to be favored in order to maximize the chances of success of one’s own transformation—while reminding us that mistakes are both inevitable and part of any transition. An instructive book, which finds the right compromise between practice and theory.
