What does the effectiveness of a leadership team rest on? That is the question addressed in this book by Frédéric Godart and Jacques Neatby, respectively professor at INSEAD and consultant in organizational development. They invite us in particular to take a step back from the injunction to ensure the leadership team’s alignment, too often regarded as the unavoidable condition for ensuring effective leadership. On the contrary, the authors argue that a certain degree of divergence is inevitable—and even rather healthy—as long as possible drifts are properly managed. It is therefore best to recognize the multiple tensions that run through any leadership team and deal with them. These tensions stem from the dual responsibility of each of its members: not only co-responsible for the organization as a whole, but also leaders of a function or division whose perspective they must defend. It is by balancing these two roles that a productive climate of cooperation and emulation is established within the team. The book provides many tips and examples to achieve this. A reference source for executives seeking to unleash the full potential of their leadership teams.
