Marie-France Hirigoyen is one of France’s most respected emotional harassment specialists; and in this book, she tackles the various forms of psychological harassment in the workplace.
One of the main strengths of this book is the clear definition describing the contours of harassment. Ms. Hirigoyen distinguishes between different types of difficult, yet different, situations involving stress, conflict, periodic violence or poor working conditions. Genuine cases of psychological harassment are based on a twisted relationship between two employees.
The author goes on to give a well-illustrated explanation of how these deviant relationships occur and the various forms they can take. She explains the devastating effect that emotional harassment may have on the employee’s psychological well-being. The last part of the book, "What to do," gives practical advice on possible measures to take, specifically with regard to the respective roles of the various company stakeholders.
This accurate and well-founded book draws both on the author’s expertise as a psychiatrist and her personal research in the corporate world.
