This book provides the keys to building effective teams – whether leadership teams or project teams. The author, a principal at Guttman Development Strategies, specifically underlines the importance of shared leadership, where each member feels jointly responsible for the performance of the whole. The first half of the book, chapters 2 to 5, is devoted to the mindset required of the team leader and participants, and how to create a momentum that inspires everyone to move the team forward in the right direction. Chapter 6 focuses on the prime ingredients of effective teams, e.g., how decisions are made – with a focus not on systematic consensus but rather on using the right decision-making approach depending on the issue. The following chapters and the appendix tackle various aspects of smooth team operation, with some particularly useful hints in chapter 7 on organizing meetings and in appendices A and B on fostering desirable behaviors by leaders and participants.
