In this book, François Vergonjeanne undertakes to decipher the lessons drawn from Berne’s Organizational Theory for coaching professionals and leaders. Although somewhat theoretical, the content provides interesting and highly concrete food for thought for business leaders, who are often at a loss to cope with organizational dysfunctions whose causes seem intangible. For example, is the leader of your organization really who you think it is? For that matter, how do you define your organization? Where are the internal and external borders? Why do people persist in behaving individualistically and playing political games? On these intriguing topics, this book provides a relevant analytical structure and suggests some possible solutions.
In particular, you will find an analysis of the various factors that affect team performance. The second part of the book specifically analyzes the concept of authority—much more variable than many imagine—and group dynamics. Organizations are always moving, points out the author, and stick together only due to the delicate balance of forces that managers must learn to regulate. This analysis is followed by a description of tools useful for coaches, but also for leaders who would like to adopt or adapt them for their particular needs.
Above all, this is a toolbox for organizational and team coaches, which nonetheless provides original and welcome enlightenment for managers as well.
