Summary
This article combats the preconceived notion that communities of practice and informal networks cannot, or should not, be managed. Although the authors recognize that formal management tools may not be compatible with social networks or communities, they emphasize the need for real managerial intervention to capitalize fully upon these drivers. To facilitate this task, they provide guidelines to help companies analyze their informal networks and point to key drivers of influence at their disposal.
