Summary
How can you manage the massive volume of company knowledge in the era of big data? Primarily by being aware that explicit and tacit knowledge demand different approaches. Expecting too much from knowledge formalization through computerized tools leaves the company exposed to losing a valuable portion of its know-how—and often the most critical, because it is latent knowledge, which is hard for competitors to emulate. The authors of this article encourage companies to identify the type of knowledge in their portfolio in order to find the best way to disseminate and preserve it. They provide several examples and tips for this purpose.
