This article presents a study of the evolution of 23 value chains concerning the production of goods or services over the 1995-2017 period in 43 countries. This comprehensive overview reveals five major trends in the global economy: the relative reduction in the intensity of the exchanges of goods; the relative increase in the exchanges of services; the decline in the strategies of trade arbitration; the growth of the share of value associated with knowledge and expertise; and the regionalization of exchanges.
